nplaw (Norfolk Public Law) is an award-winning shared legal service providing advice and representation to Norfolk County Council and other local authorities in Norfolk. We were established in 2010 and have more than 80 staff.

If you are a seasoned planning lawyer with experience of compulsory purchase work, we would love to discuss how you might fit in with our flourishing planning and environmental law team. The team provides a full service to a variety of local authorities and other public bodies, which includes:

  • complex section 106 agreements (from major residential developments and associated infrastructure to sites to be used for mineral extraction with difficult environmental issues to be controlled)
  • advice on CIL, lawful use, complex enforcement work, local plan development and interpretation, development management
  • representation at planning committees and hearings and advocacy at public inquiries
  • highway diversions and other highway matters such as highway agreements, traffic regulation orders, side road orders and DCOs; revocation orders
  • planning, listed buildings, housing, highways and other compulsory purchase orders together with advice on complex compensation matters and judicial review and Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber) work.

You will need to able to advise elected members and senior officers on complex issues, work well within a close-knit team, members of which often co-work or co-operate on the same matters, maintain excellent relationships with other team members, clients and solicitors acting for developers, supervise and assist other team members and work collaboratively with lawyers in other nplaw teams, all whilst carrying a high caseload.

We are based in Norwich, but travel across East Anglia and sometimes the country, to meet with clients and deliver training. We work flexibly, but the ability and willingness to attend client and developer meetings and speak at seminars is integral to our ongoing success.

All our office based roles are currently working from home as part of our Smarter Working plans and to support the health and safety of all our colleagues. We anticipate that working remotely will be a key feature of this role and when offices re-open your office base will be County Hall, Norwich.  Our technology platform and equipment is first class enabling you to connect and collaborate remotely. We ask that you have in place good Broadband connectivity.

Interviews will take place via video technology, where you will have the opportunity to discuss these working arrangements.
